Notes:
Remy Cameron has been openly gay since he came out during a speech to the entire school his Freshman year. He has also long accepted the fact that he is black and adopted and does not look like his white parents. He is also still not over his breakup with his ex-boyfriend who said he was too clingy. But do any of these things define him? When Remy’s Ap English teacher tasks the class with writing an essay about who they are, he struggles with that very question. Remy belives that everything rides on this essay, especially his chances of getting into Emory. When Remy connects with the half-sister he never knew he had and finds himself falling for someone new, he begins to question everything and seems to lose sight of who he is.
Remy is confident in his sexuality, but he questions if that is the only thing that defines him. Will he always be that adopted black guy who is president of the GSA? This one essay shakes Remy’ self-confidence and makes him question everything that he thought he knew. Remy ties his identity to his literacy ablities. He only knows who he is if he is able to express it in writing.

- This book is similar to Autoboyography, Pulp and Dear Rachel Maddow in that the plot revolves around a school assignment that takes on a larger meaning.
